एक गांव में तीन चोर रहते थे। एक रात उन्होंने एक धनी आदमी के यहां चोरी की। उन्होंने सारा धन एक थैले में भरा और उसे लेकर जंगल की ओर भाग निकले। जंगल में पहुंचने पर उन्हें जोर की भूख लगी। वहां खाने को तो कुछ था नहीं, इसलिए उनमें से एक चोर पास के एक गांव से खाना लेने गया। बाकी के दोनों चोर जंगल में चोरी के माल की रखवाली कर रहे थे।
जो चोर खाना लेने गया था, उसकी नीयत खराब थी। पहले उसने होटल में खुद भोजन किया। फिर उसने अपने साथियों के लिए खाना खरीद कर उसमें तेज जहर मिला दिया। उसने सोचा कि जहरीला खाना खाकर उसके दोनों साथी मर जाएंगे तो सारा धन उसका हो जाएगा। जंगल में दोनों चोरों ने खाना लेने गए अपने साथी चोर की हत्या करने की योजना बना ली थी। वे उसे अपने रास्ते से हटाकर सारा धन आपस में बांट लेना चाहते थे।
तीनों चोरों ने अपनी-अपनी योजनाओं के अनुसार कार्य किया। पहला चोर जैसे ही जहरीला भोजन लेकर जंगल में पहुंचा। उसके दोनों साथी उस पर टूट पड़े। उन्होंने उसका काम तमाम कर दिया फिर वे निश्चिंत होकर भोजन करने बैठ गए। मगर जहरीला भोजन खाते ही वे दोनों भी तड़प-तड़प कर मर गए। इस प्रकार तीनों का अंत भी बुरा ही हुआ।

Three thieves lived in a village. One night he stole from a rich man. He filled all the money in a bag and ran away towards the forest with it. On reaching the forest he felt very hungry. There was nothing to eat there, so one of the thieves went to a nearby village to get food. The remaining two thieves were guarding the stolen goods in the forest.
The thief who had gone to get food had bad intentions. First he had his meal himself in the hotel. Then he bought food for his companions and mixed strong poison in it. He thought that if both his friends die after eating poisonous food, all the money will be his. In the forest, both the thieves had planned to kill their fellow thief who had gone to get food. They wanted to remove him from their path and divide all the wealth among themselves.
The three thieves acted according to their respective plans. The first thief reached the forest with poisonous food. Both his companions pounced on him. They finished his work and then sat down to eat without any worries. But both of them died in agony after eating poisonous food. Thus, all three also ended badly.
