उत्तर:- सुरत (जीवात्मा) चेतन है और शरीर जड़ है। सुरत इस मनुष्य शरीर में दोनों आंखों के बीच में बैठी है। इधर जड़ में चेतन छिपा है और उधर आंखों के ऊपर चेतन ही चेतन है। जब चेतन का जलवा देखने को मिलता है तब पता चलता है चेतनता है क्या चेतन को जड़ से जब निकाला जाता है तो उसको जीते जी मरना कहते हैं। एक बार सुरत को जड़ शरीर से निकाल कर अलग करें तब पता चलता है कि शरीर है क्या? जब तक सुरत अपने प्रकाश को जड़ में फैलाये रहेगी तब तक न वह अपने को समझेगी और न शरीर को ही समझ पायेगी । इसको वह केंचुल की तरह छोड़ देती है |
सुरत का जरा सा सिमटाव हुआ कि इधर बेहोशी होने लगती है और उधर खिंचाव हो गया । शरीर से नाम के द्वारा ही सुरत निकलती है और फिर लिंग शरीर धारण करती है। ऊपर में प्रकाश है अन्धेरा बिल्कुल नहीं है। लिंग शरीर में देवती देवता रहते हैं । सुरत को होश आ जाती है और देखती है कि वह चेतन है जड़ नहीं है। जब चाहे वह शरीर से निकल गई और फिर शरीर में वापस आ गई। इस प्रकार सुरत जाग जाती है।
